DUAL USE OF
ASSETS & SERVICES
• The deployment of assets and technologies for both Civilian and Military purposes.
• Interoperability between GEOdefensea and the Navy, especially in the maritime domain.
• Sharing capabilities, both achieving operational efficiency - from seabed mapping to strategic defence operations.

COMMON TOOLS & MISSIONS
Both the Navy and GEOdefensea utilize a range of common tools and platforms, including (survey) vessels, Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) equipped with advanced sonar systems.
These sonar technologies are essential for seabed characterization, infrastructure inspection, ongoing monitoring, and the detection of unexploded ordnance (UXO). Many of their operational tasks overlap, such as coastal surveillance, port security, and underwater reconnaissance, demonstrating strong synergy between naval and defense agency missions.

ADVANTAGES OF DUAL USE COLLABORATION
Dual-use collaboration between the Navy and GEOdefensea offers significant advantages.
Cost-effectiveness is achieved through the joint utilization of high-value technologies like various sonar systems. Mission readiness is enhanced by enabling rapid deployment of assets for both civilian surveys and military operations such as mine countermeasures.
The partnership fosters expertise exchange, with GEOdefensea contributing advanced assets, geophysical expertise, and survey know-how, while the Navy provides tactical and operational insights.
Furthermore, this collaboration strengthens national security and supports strategic autonomy, particularly in safeguarding European waters.
