TRAINING OF
NAVAL PERSONNEL

As part of its mission to strengthen maritime defense capabilities,
GEOdefensea offers comprehensive, hands-on training programs for naval personnel aboard vessels
of the GEOxyz fleet and at our facilities in Ostend (Belgium).

The training sessions are designed to provide real-world experience in a high-performance operational environment, supporting both basic familiarization and advanced skill development.

BRIDGE OPERATIONS

Naval trainees are fully immersed in the complete range of navigation and vessel control duties performed on the bridge.

They gain hands-on experience in ship handling and maneuvering, operating electronic navigation systems such as ECDIS, radar, and AIS, mastering communication protocols while maintaining situational awareness, and applying safety procedures and watchkeeping responsibilities.

ENGINE ROOM TRAINING

Below deck, participants are introduced to the fundamentals of marine engineering and onboard systems management.

The training covers daily operations and maintenance of propulsion and auxiliary systems, familiarizes them with alarm systems and emergency procedures, and emphasizes energy efficiency and environmental compliance on board.

DECK OPERATIONS
& SURVEY GEAR HANDLING

On the working deck, naval trainees participate in practical exercises that cover the launch and recovery of survey equipment such as ROVs, sonar systems, and magnetometers.

They practice deck safety and coordination during operations, gain proficiency in cable handling and winch operation, and learn proper mooring procedures.

DATA PROCESSING
& DATA INTERPRETATION

Trainees develop the skills to process and analyze data acquired from a wide range of sonar systems and survey sensors. They learn to apply specialized software and techniques to clean, correct, and integrate raw data sets. Through careful interpretation, they extract valuable information regarding seafloor characteristics, underwater structures, and environmental conditions. The resulting data products support accurate reporting, decision-making, and mission planning.

OSTEND SCIENCE PARK

Our new

Training & Data center

Our building at Ostend Science park is nearing completion and will soon house GEOdefensea’s training and data center, along with the GEOxyz innovation department. Our TechHub, located within the building, will also host our Remote Operations Centers (ROCs). We expect the facility to be fully operational by the end of 2025.
